im getting my first tarantula on tuesday.its gonna be a P.Striata any special things i should kno about?

I also have a chamealeon, jackson chamealeon, that doesn't seem to be eating. Its also winter, we have a heat lamp, and we put him in the sun during the day. Any suggestions?

I know this is a spider forum sorry for posting something about a reptile. Just needed the help.

Yeah, I've got some stuff...

First of all, welcome to the board. :)

Second, P. striata isn't the best choice (in my opinion) for a first spider, especially if you know nothing about tarantulas.

Poecilotheria species tarantulas have very strong venom. They are arboreal spiders, and are a 7-8 on the "Fast Scale" (again, in my opinion, or from my experience, whatever you prefer).

I'd recommend using the search function while you're here; there is a lot of information on this site that is easily accessible if you know how to find it. :)

ok but i saw it looking kewl.its a female,1 1/2 inch,coming on tuesday.JOE!

Is your chamelion moving slower than usual? Looking skinnier? How much water does it drink? Humidity level?

Yes its not moving alot and its way skinnier. We mist it everyday it drinks everyday I don't know the humidity level though.

help plz i dont want it to die like my goldfish!

I know zero about reptiles, but as far as your new tarantula goes, since you've already ordered it, you have three days to cram information into your head. Please use the search function here and read,read,read.:)

Owning a Poecilotheria striata is a handful even for people who are in the hobby for quite sometime. What more for a beginner.

Anyway, here's something that I searched on the web about the P. striata.

All the things you say in your posts make you sound like a child. And if you wanted to handle your chameleon which is a display animal, I can't even fathom you trying to hold your P. striata. In my opinion, if you want it just because it looks cool and you are a child. Please go with something else as a starter, because its things like "I want it because its cool" That got the reptile hobby in such trouble. So please really think about this. I'm sorry if I'm the one being blunt about this.

Ok. I am of the opinion that the majority of tarantula keepers could have started out with a Poecilotheria species and been FINE. Hell, once the fear is gone, and one can start re-housing large, "scary" tarantulas without their hands shaking, half the battle is over. After that, it's just learning to read a T's behavior and the little tricks that help with maneuvering them.

But I will NEVER recommend a Poecilotheria species as a good first-time tarantula. If someone does the requisite research and really feels confident that they can keep a pokie, then they have my vote of confidence. The reason I would never recommend a pokie for a newb is that small percentage of people that will buy a spider because it looks "kewl" (and already has an exotic pet that they were underprepared for). For the spider's sake, the hobby's sake, and your sake, I hope this ends better than I think it will.

I am SO glad you're getting a certain T because it's pretty! :rolleyes:

Please, utilize the Search function... more for your future T's sake, than yours (but I'm biased :cool:)

You're getting a handful of a spider... don't get cocky, don't disrespect it, and don't think you're a badass for having it.

This should be interesting...

O im not gonna touch it. I was told how much it hurts and stuff but i've held a king baboon before so im not that scared of a bite, and yes i read that big long bite report thing. I only held or touched the chamealeon to move the chamealeon not to touch it for fun. I probaly use like a cup or something to transfer it. I won't get cocky.

Why do I feel like I'm watching a horror movie? I want to cover my eyes with my hands but at the same time I want to leave some space between my fingers so I can peek out and watch the horror unfold. Anyway, good luck and hopefully you escape relatively unscatherd from this grisly tale.
