I guess their common-name is "house centipede" or "cave centipede"
Thereuopoda spec. is the scientific name as far as i know.
and they'll go from East-India towards Indo-australia i guess.

here some more pîctures:

ohman, now i want to go find and *paint* a Scutigera coleoptera

and give it some Miracle-Gro hehehehe

It's a house centipede to me, and i have no idea why the centipede in ur house is that small LOL
by the way, they are not from China...
NO offense, but i think most N.Americans really need to learn more about Asia geography..............

Hi Randolph

Can you tell me where i can get a giant house pede (Thereuopoda) from?
Is there a possibility to get some of those to Germany?
By the way, where are you from and do you also have those giant house pedes there?

They are indeed amazing creatures, keeping them would be awesome. I found some in a cave in Borneo last summer, they were huge! Pics in this thread:

I went back again in January this year and found that they are not only found in caves but are actually quite common in the rainforest as well, although not as easy to find. I collected some and was hoping to bring them back home. Unfortunately they proved to be very sensitive and would not survive more than a few days in the plastic jars lined with moist paper towel I kept them in. Too bad as they would make great pets being apparantly communal if provided with a lot of food, they are also often seen out in the open looking for food.
Nothing to play around with though, the locals assured me I might die if bitten! However things like that are often exaggerated, but they were correct about the large centipedes (S. subspinipes sp.?) having very painful bites but not being deadly..... Maybe they were right after all...

I am from the region(Taiwan), but I am not in the region(Canada) now
and i think i stated this clearly in my location section under my avatar
plus, they are pretty fragile and will have great potential to die out during the shipping IMO
