Went to a local hole in the wall pet store after work today, and rescued a T. They had 4 T's in tanks with astro turf for substrate:mad:
All had water most had made webs, but surprise no knowledge of T's. They had a red knee labled as a red leg:?
Well to make a long story short I left the store with 1 a H.lividum. It's prob a male,(couldn't get a good look at the underside) if so it will live out the rest of its life in a more sutable environment=D
and here it is

Btw its approx 3-4"

In their defense, there's nothing really wrong with astroturf; it's not ideal, but from the p.o.v. of displaying Ts for a petstore it's a lot better than the sopping wet bed-a-beast or aquarium gravel you can often find. It's even specifically addressed as an acceptable substrate in the TKG. Further, the redknee was known as the redleg for several decades, I'm amazed anyone ever stopped calling them redlegs as it was only through the *arbitrary* efforts of the AAs it was changed.

Sometimes it is your lack of knowledge that makes theirs seem much worse.

For sure it needs to be fattened up. That seems to be the way you find alot of T's in pet stores. Plus, alot of the H. lividums you see are wild caught, they don't seem to eat as well in the wild compared to how we take care of them.

Nice save, good luck with it William.

I didn't know there was any tarantula that is sexually dimorphic...... Only as adults??

Try as I might I can't plump up my p. murinus. I feed it about four large crix a week, and the last food it took prior to molting was a pinky. Even so, it's butt was still tiny when it finally emerged.....
:( What am I doing wrong??
