Lampropelma violaceopes

Acquired both a male and female adults recently. I let both of them settle in and have a few meals each before introducing them. On recommendation from Anastasia I also put some of the females webbing in with the male and vice versa a couple days before their "date". When introduced both inividuals drummed quite a bit until they found each other. They looked like they were getting friendly when one of the males rear feet slipped and he sort of fell. This freaked out both spiders and they went running for different corners. I let him live in her cage for a week when I pulled him out and let him rest for a few days. He refused to eat so I put him back in with her for another week or so. I never did see any more positive activity. Yesterday I found one of his legs and a chunk of his body. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he did his job well.

3/12 - Pulled sac. There were 78 eggs.
3/14 - Eggs started to become eggs with legs
4/16 - Eggs with legs started to molt into 1st instar.
Ended up with only 26

I would recommend either keeping the sac with the mother, or waiting more then 40 days to pull the egg sac. The other 30 or so eggs look like they are trapped in the eggs...maybe not enough humidity?

Female molted-10/7/2012
I received a MM from Pete Lacey early August 2012 and let him produce a sperm web.I then put him in with my female on 11/8/2012 .I had previously fed her quite heavily on adult Dubia roaches in hope the male would survive long enough to get an insert.I watched them for a couple of hours and witnessed nothing,so off I went to bed with him still in there.In the morning she was sat on her cork bark hide eating him.So I had no idea if he has got an insert.
For the next three months she was kept at her normal temperatures and fed once a week.I noticed she wanted more food so I started feeding her twice a week and towards the end of November I started wetting her tank.

In hindsight I think I pulled the eggsack a little early as out of the 90+ EWL that were put into the incubator,most of them died at early N2,s.
Total spiderlings - 27

SUCCESSFUL

Any special care or preliminary notes for the lovers - Male was introduced two months after her last molt, and he was freshly molted, made a sperm web, and ate once. Female was fed until she couldnt eat any more.

How they were paired - Male cohabbed with the female for a week three times, then was removed. He died a few weeks later.

Any observations on the hookup - Was never witnessed

Any special post mating care - Did you give the female a cooling off period or any other trick to try and get her to drop a sac.

Time to sac - 3 months since first pairing.

Care of the sac - May 17th the sac was laid. June 17th it was pulled, and placed in a 16 oz deli with a coffee filter, inside of a 32oz deli with water at the bottom. holes punched in the top of the lid and the bottom of the 16oz deli was cut out. Two of these were used, as 127 ewl were found, 3 eggs, 4 duds, and one ewl was smashed upon taking the sac from the female.

Time to emerge/hatch - 2/3 eggs molted to ewl 3 days later. First instars started ~July 6th. 2nd instars started ~July 29th.

The final details - 127 successful 2nd instars.
